August 3rd- A Piano

Yesterday there was some impulse buying. After having bagels with the swimming crew and going to Farmer's Market for some fruits and veggies we headed over to Restore. Restore is the Habitat for Humanity store that is some salvage, some scraps, some used. I have a few DYI projects that I want to do (or have Matt do) and was looking for pieces. We stumbled on a $75 piano. It had be donated to Restore from the Consignment shop down the road, it wouldn't sell there. When Restore got the piano it had a $4000 price tag on it. They marked it down to a few hundred but it still didn't sell. $75 seemed like a good price. It is a beautiful piano and even if it was never going to work again, which we didn't think the real ivory keys and amazing wood was worth that much. Matt rented a UHaul and we brought it home. Ross came over to help and we got it into the living room with no problem. Matt has since taken it apart, examined it all. The piano was made by a company in San Francisco that was in business from 1870's to 1890's. So it has some age to it.

This morning I came out to find Ella and Matt having a little fun on the piano. Hopefully it will tune nicely and many more morning will start with a song.
